Infection Prevention Control Manager

Managers of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) activities lead the development and maintenance of an infection-control program in a given MSF project. The goals include striving for good quality of care and the safety of patients, caretakers and staff. In accordance with MSF protocols and standards, the IPC manager will participate in the definition of the project’s IPC objectives.     

ACTIVITIES

  • Define, implement and monitor the IPC project plans in collaboration with the medical team, nursing team, logistics team and relevant committees
  • Provide expertise, support and training for staff on IPC related issues with a particular focus on activities such as: water supply, solid waste and waste water treatment and disposal, latrines and shower facilities, vector control and medical-waste management
  • Guarantee project compliance to MSF IPC standards
  • Develop multimodal strategies to improve IPC in MSF’s facilities including initiating system change, organizing training, conducting performance monitoring, and giving feedback to promote a stepwise IPC improvement approach, working with communities and tailored to the local context
  • Submit activity reports and manage data (forms, statistics, databases, etc.)
  • Plan training for staff and conduct evaluations, supervision, etc.                             

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Compliance with essential criteria for all potential international staff 
  • Diploma or certificate in IPC with a background as a medical doctor or as a registered nurse
  • At least two years working in IPC in a hospital setting 
  • Available for assignment for a minimum of nine months
  • Must display no recent gap in experience greater than two years (current practicising certificate preferred)
  • Willingness to abide by Médecins Sans Frontières medical protocols

DESIRABLE

  • Fellow of the Australasian College for Infection Prevention and Control
  • Work experience or study in tropical medicine, refugee health or international public health
  • Clinical experience in infectious diseases (STDs, HIV/AIDS, TB)
