On March 14, Tropical Cyclone Idai hit the coastal town of Beira in Mozambique, with winds of up to 200 kilometres per hour and relentlessly heavy rains. In its wake, a city of close to 500,000 inhabitants has been left destroyed. The storm’s impact has affected people as far inland as Zimbabwe and Malawi.
The flooding and damage caused by Cyclone Idai has destroyed homes and infrastructure, displaced thousands of people, and created a disaster-zone with enormous needs for assistance and alarming health concerns.
Médecins Sans Frontières teams are on the ground in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi, providing medical emergency support to the populations affected.
