The three-year conflict in Yemen has had a devastating impact on healthcare. Too many babies are dying within their first weeks of life because they are unable to access the healthcare they need.
Aysha's Story
Aysha was born in a remote village in northern Yemen and became unwell the night after she was born. Her grandmother set out on foot to get help but was turned away from two local medical clinics that didn’t have the facilities to treat such a young baby.
Desperate to seek treatment for her grandchild, Aysha’s grandmother walked for six hours to the Médecins Sans Frontières hospital, arriving exhausted with blisters on her feet.
Aysha was treated for an infection of the umbilical cord, which is life-threatening if left untreated.
